Typetone: from early generative AI to AI compliance at scale

Typetone is an AI-native services platform for regulatory compliance. It scans digital content at scale, flags what breaks the rules and fixes it in bulk, with people in the loop.

The start

We started Typetone in 2022, before ChatGPT came out, as one of the first generative AI startups in Europe. Most companies had never used a language model back then, so a lot of our early work was showing teams what the technology could actually do for them.

The first product was a content operations platform: an AI layer on top of enterprise content workflows, so marketing teams could produce a lot more content while staying on brand. We worked with brands like Albert Heijn, Wehkamp, flatexDEGIRO, ICI PARIS XL, Marktplaats, A.S. Watson and Roularta, and on average their content production went up by 53%.

The software was only half of the work. The other half was change management: getting teams to trust AI and to change how they worked day to day. That's where I spent a large part of my time, inside these organisations.

The pivot

From there we pivoted Typetone to AI regulatory compliance. The more content companies publish, the harder it gets to make sure all of it follows the rules, from financial regulation like MiFID II to the EmpCo directive on green claims, accessibility requirements and every brand's own guidelines.

Typetone is now an AI-native services platform that scans digital assets at scale, like websites, product pages, images, video and social posts, and checks them against the regulations that apply. What gets flagged is fixed in bulk, with a human in the loop for sign-off, and it's fully integrated into the tools teams already use.

Today

Typetone runs the highest volume of regulatory checks on digital content in Europe. Companies use it to get their content compliant and keep it that way, without reviewing every page by hand.
